Cohen's Moral Panic Theory

"A condition, episode, person or group of persons emerges as a thread to societal values and interests."

This theory bases itself of 5 features;
  • Concern
  • Volatility
  • Hostility
  • Consensus
  • Disproportionality

Examples of Moral Panic:

In summary these moral panics show how newspapers portray a negative image towards a particular thing which try and sway how people feel towards these issues.

This theory can be applied to music magazines since ours will be aimed at a teenage audience. This can be shown by a band being portrayed in a negative way and also many social panics over the years to do with music.
